Why build a home theater?

Basically, the most common reason is to recreate the “cinema experience” at home. Watch all your favorite movies in amazing quality from the comfort of your home. Play all your favorite video games and listen to all your music in incredible detail.

You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to get this experience, but you do have to plan out everything carefully, so as to maximize the enjoyment you’ll receive from the home theater system.

The basic components to a home theater are the following:

  1. A large screen to output the image, such as a TV or a projector
  2. Speakers to play the audio. A minimum of 2 are required, although there are 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound options available.
  3. An audio processing device, such as an amplifier, to control and enhance the quality of the sound.
  4. Input devices, such as a DVD/CD player, a standalone Blu-ray player or a PS3/Xbox 360. Needed to read media to be played.
  5. And last but not least, a comfortable surrounding, e.g. a comfortable couch or seating, and possibly soundproofing.

All these components strategically combined will create an experience that will enable you to enjoy you home theater system the way it was meant to be enjoyed.
